Notes :-

RV 10 Project number 40500, the 500th Vans RV 10 Kit, made its maiden flight on Monday 11 August. That's 2 years 37 weeks and 5 days after I started work on the empennage. She is fitted with a James Cowl and Plenum, a 260 HP IO-540 turning a MT three bladed prop: a very smooth combination. Instrumentation and radio/nav is Dynon FIS and EMS supported by a Garmin 430, Icom A120, PS PMA 400 intercom, GTX 330 and a Bendix KMD 150 GPS as well as Trio EZ pilot and Altitude Control. Test flying is in an un-painted state with an empty weight of 1599lbs

First flight in the hands of Stan Hodgkins was as the book though the second had to be curtailed after 20 minutes due to an engine misfire resolved the next day. Test flying will include a final assessment by a UK CAA test pilot before G-RVIO is painted and issued with the all important UK Permit to fly and I can go and enjoy this fantastic machine

This is the first example flown in UK. Clearance through our permit to fly system has been an interesting and educational part of the work necessary to make this happen. It would have not been possible without the fantastic support from Vans staff and especially the Engineers lead by Ken Kruger whose personal assistance in the project made it all possible. And of course the ever helpful Barbara Billman who manages all the difficulties of shipping and customers changing their minds so very well!
